Derpy Hooves by HereticOfDune Derpy Hooves by HereticOfDune
Some parts look a little strange but this was a real quick paint. It took about an hour with no references.

Guess the idea here is that while Derpy's official story may be at an end the fandom will always be there to create more stories for her.

Plus an excuse to use a quote from my favorite author.

Sometimes it feels like I am deeply and everyone around me yells at me that I'm pathetic and a waste of space, the only one that cares about me is my best friend ;-;

Derpy is no longer in the show?
CedarWoods Featured By Owner Feb 19, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
I think the controversy surrounding Derpy, mentally challenged people, and all the hurtful ignorant things that people say about them, would make a really interesting documentary.

Think about it.

They've already made a documentary focusing on the Bronies, why not make one focusing on everybody's favorite pony, and the reasons for her being so pointlessly cut from the show?

Just because a few ignorant people think she's offensive, Hasbro decide to lick ass (and that in no way is a horse pun) and ban her.

Derpy is not offensive. She's probably the sweetest pony in all Equestria. A pure loving being, created by a wonderful creative group of devoted fans.

I believe that Derpy will become (to future generations) a warning against the wrongness of mindless censorship.

There is never an ending till you die. But even if you did, your legend still continues... until it is forgotten.
I love this quote you included in this piece. It is a truthful and honest quote that somewhat brings a slight feeling of happiness knowing that your journey isn't over yet, its just that you stopped it out of fear or another reason.
It all depends on you in the end. The journey still proceeds after time, Its just when.

This is how I view your art and that load of text i just wrote might not be true... But thank you Mister Heretic for Le journey. Definite Fav

Well said Mr. Herbert

Sure, it seems like overreacting on the fandom's part, but can anything really crush your spirits quite like a fan favorite becoming recognized, loved by all until a fun-hating minority calls it offensive when there is no offense and ends up getting "normalized" in the name of political correctness and ending up going against the message of love and tolerance in a bitter ironic twist?

I think a lot of it has to do with the symbolism of it all rather than simple fandom.

I really LOVE this! The new Drawfriend on EQ had some great stuff today! (and some questionable stuff sadly >_>) Thankfully they aren't changing Derpy. She was only changed for The Last Roundup itunes thing (and possible the dvd).

I think this is something we all need to keep in mind, regardless of wether or not her name is restored.
Thank you.

This piece is spectacular, even without the derpy connection. The look of sadness upon the face of the pony and the quote conveys one of the most awesome truths of all stories. There isn't really an ending.

Also, I have not read any Frank Herbert stories, would you recommend any specific one?
HereticOfDune Featured By Owner Feb 26, 2012  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I would recommend the original Dune series and his Destination:Void series. You can pretty much open any random page in his Dune books and find something that will be cause for thought or introspection. But really anything by Frank Herbert is amazing. Also remember that there are continuations of the Dune series done by Frank's son Bryan that are not nearly of the same caliber but still enjoyable.
Squirrelboy265 Featured By Owner Feb 26, 2012
After a momentary lapse of memory, I now realize that I have read at least one of Herbert's works. Specifically, I have read Dune. It was very odd but quite enjoyable. I haven't yet read one of his later works, nor the series continuation. Thank you for responding and I'm sorry for, uh, not remembering properly.

What is the Void series about?
HereticOfDune Featured By Owner Feb 26, 2012  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Destination:void (1st book) Deals with the ideas of artificial intelligence and cloning along with a healthy dose of psychology. The first book is a little dry but I enjoyed it. The series gets more interesting in later books and among other things deals with religious violence and leader worship. They are strange books and not easy reads but I really enjoy them.
Squirrelboy265 Featured By Owner Feb 29, 2012
I will keep them in mind, Thank you for the suggestions.

Have you read any of Orson Scott Card's works?

And what other novels by different authors have you really enjoyed? Any Steinbeck?
HereticOfDune Featured By Owner Mar 3, 2012  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Read all of Orson's Ender series and enjoyed them. "Of Mice and Men" is a very good book but I find it a tad depressing to reread. I should check out some of his other work.

I enjoy Robert Heinlein's take on cultural taboos (Stranger in a Strange Land, I Will Fear No Evil)and Phillip Jose's "River World" series. Roger Zelazny also has some good stuff my favorite being "Lord of Light" (mixture of Hinduism, Buddhism, and science fiction.)

Oh and Douglas Adams is always good for a laugh. Both the books and his radio series are great.
Squirrelboy265 Featured By Owner Mar 6, 2012
I recommend "East of Eden" as Steinbeck's greatest novel and "Travels with Charlie" a good one if you enjoy stories about road trips and searching for the soul of a nation (Travels with Charlie is a memoir of a road trip of Steinbeck's). Although, he is quite depressing at times.

Stranger in a strange land was strange...But I preferred Heinleins "Starship Troopers" especially the political philosophy espoused by the book.

I've never heard of Jose or Zelazny and I personally cannot stand Adams. Although to each their own.

As to why I do not like Adams, I'm not entirely sure. The frivolous nature of his stories tends to bother me, and though I do like comedy, this type doesn't necessarily appeal to me.
